Energy Performance Certificates tell you how energy
efficient a home is on a scale of A-G. The most efficient homes - which
should have the lowest fuel bills - are in band A.The
Certificate also tells you, on a scale of A-G, about the impact the home
has on the environment. Better-rated homes should have less impact through
carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
The average property in the UK is in bands D-E for both ratings. The
Certificate includes recommendations on ways to improve the home's energy
efficiency to save you money and help the environment. Most sellers of newly built homes
will have to provide a predicted assessment of the energy efficiency
of the property, but a full Energy Performance Certificate should
be provided to the buyer when the home is completed.
Tips & Advice...
To get the best out of your survey it's important
that we can gather information relating to your boiler type and any insulation
added to your home such as: loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, double
glazing.
As it is not always possible to fully identify boilers or to see insulation
especially if it has been placed in wall cavities or beneath boards in
the loft or when the loft is deemed as inaccessible, any evidence you
can give may help increase your energy rating.
If there is no official evidence then the software designed to assess
your home will automatically default to the lowest reading.
The Process...
The assessment will
take less than an hour for most properties and involves us taking various
measurements around the property and identifying the type of heating used
and any insulation installed.
Within a few days of your assessment you will receive your certificate.
It looks like a fridge or freezer rating and uses colours and numbers
to demonstrate how efficient your home is and how many tonnes of CO2
are being released from it.
Within this illustration is your banding (A to G) and in the next column
is the banding your house could potentially achieve.
Suggested improvements are included in the report and are set out as
activities costing under £500 and over £500 which will help improve your
home's efficiency. Recommendations may range from simply
adding energy efficient light bulbs to installing loft insulation in
your home.
